Putting the World of Horses Within REACH
Responsibility · Experience · Access · Connection · Horsemanship
Different programs. Different pathways. One shared foundation.
Our programs create different ways into the world of horses—from first experiences and horsemanship to recreation, education, work experience, and community connection.
Early Childhood & Horsemanship
For many people, Barn School will be their first doorway into the world of horses. Our early childhood and horsemanship programs create opportunities to begin at any age - building skills, confidence, responsibility, and a genuine understanding of the horse along the way.
Little Hooves — A four-week introduction designed for young children and their caregivers. Through grooming, leading, horse care, age-appropriate barn activities, and a first lead-line riding experience, children become comfortable around horses while beginning to learn how their actions affect another living being.
Private Riding Lessons — Individual instruction shaped around each rider’s experience, goals, and pace. Lessons develop riding skills alongside the horsemanship that surrounds them including communication, horse behavior, care, safety, and an understanding of the individual horse beneath the saddle.
Horse Leases — For riders ready for greater independence and consistency, partial leases offer the opportunity to spend regular time with one horse beyond scheduled lessons. Riders can develop a deeper partnership, practice their skills, and experience more of the responsibility and commitment that comes with having a horse in their life.
Camps
A chance to experience what it really means to spend your days at the barn—building skills, taking on responsibility, and becoming part of the daily rhythm of caring for horses.
Summer & Spring Break Camps — Full-day programs where young people spend the week riding, learning horsemanship, caring for horses, and participating in the everyday life of the barn. Alongside time in the saddle, campers build practical skills through grooming, groundwork, horse care, outdoor activities, and working together.
A Week With a Horse — A more immersive camp experience that gives each participant the opportunity to build a relationship with a particular horse throughout the week. Campers learn their horse’s individual personality, needs, and routines while developing their riding and horsemanship skills and experiencing the responsibility that comes with caring for a horse.
Schools & Youth Development
Bringing experiential learning, responsibility, and horsemanship beyond the traditional classroom. Barn School programs give young people the opportunity to learn through movement, observation, problem-solving, teamwork, and the real responsibilities that come with caring for horses.
School Field Trips — Full-day experiences that bring students into the working environment of the barn. Students rotate through riding, groundwork, grooming, horse care, and hands-on learning, creating opportunities to practice communication, responsibility, confidence, and teamwork.
High School Equestrian Program — An ongoing after-school program where students develop riding and horsemanship skills while taking an active role in barn life. Alongside time in the saddle, students learn horse care, behavior, safety, equipment, and the responsibility involved in maintaining the wellbeing of a horse while simultaneously earning High School credit.
Equine-Assisted Programs
Horses create a unique environment for slowing down, paying attention, communicating clearly, and becoming more aware of ourselves and others. Barn School creates opportunities to explore these experiences through both coaching and practitioner-led services.
Equine-Assisted Coaching — Ground-based experiences that use interaction with horses to explore communication, confidence, boundaries, awareness, and personal growth. Sessions are experiential and shaped around the individual rather than focused on riding ability.
Therapeutic & Adaptive Services — Barn School partners with qualified practitioners who incorporate horses into services within their own professional scope. We provide access to appropriate horses and the barn environment while practitioners bring their specialized training and expertise.
Community Partnerships
Some of the people who could benefit most from meaningful time with horses are also among the least likely to have access to them. Barn School works with community organizations to help change that.
Programs can be developed alongside mental-health organizations, recovery services, justice and reentry programs, youth organizations, schools, and other community partners. Experiences may include horse care, groundwork, riding, outdoor activities, and facilitated group learning, with each program shaped around the needs and goals of the participating organization.
Partnerships can range from a single introductory day at the barn to ongoing programming, creating opportunities for people to build relationships, responsibility, confidence, practical skills, and connection over time.
Trails & Tourism
Some experiences with horses are best understood outside the arena. Our trail and tourism programs invite people to slow down, step away from everyday distractions, and experience the surrounding landscape from horseback.
Guided Trail Rides — Small-group seasonal rides designed to be more than simply a ride from one place to another. With horses setting the pace, guests have an opportunity to be present, connect with the outdoors, and experience horsemanship in a completely different setting.
Local Experiences — Barn School will collaborate with local businesses to create distinctive visitor experiences that pair time with horses with the food, places, and experiences of the surrounding community. These partnerships also create an earned-revenue stream that helps support the broader mission of The Barn School.
Private & Group Experiences
The barn offers a setting for gathering that is active, memorable, and naturally encourages people to interact differently. Private experiences allow families, friends, organizations, and teams to experience horses together in a way designed around their group.
Private Events & Celebrations — Customized experiences for birthdays, families, private groups, and special occasions. Depending on the group, experiences may combine riding with grooming, groundwork, horse interaction, and time together at the barn.
Corporate & Team Experiences — Customized group experiences using horses and the barn environment to explore communication, collaboration, leadership, awareness, and team dynamics. Experiences can range from shorter group sessions to more developed half or full day programs created with professional facilitators and local partners.
Volunteer, Leadership & Work Experience
Access to the horse world should include more than the opportunity to participate in a program. Barn School also aims to create pathways for people to contribute, take responsibility, develop practical skills, and eventually find paid work within the equine community.
Volunteer & Leadership Opportunities —Participants can become more involved in barn life through horse care, program support, mentorship, events, and community projects. As skills and experience grow, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and leadership.
Working Student & Employment Pathways — Paid working-student positions will give young people practical experience supporting camps and other programs while developing horsemanship, reliability, teamwork, and workplace skills. Over time, Barn School's goal is to create a pathway from participant → volunteer → leader → paid work.
